Traffic Killed the Radio Star

Okay, so when Daoud Tyler-Ameen is not busy being a superb Urban Barnyard drummer and all-around swell guy, he is a swingin' dj up at Yale. Very kindly, he offered to let any of our little tribe come on up and play on the old radio up there. Being the fun-junkies that we are, Chris Maher, Dashan and I jumped at the chance. We met up in midtown. I ate some ostrich at Better Burger and we set off in high spirits.

The distaster.

We spent roughly 100 hours on I-95 trying to get to New Haven and were twarted at every turn. It took us over 2 hours just to get out of the Bronx. Turned out a big truck had flipped over and there was mad wicked chaos around it- though it looked like maybe noone was hurt. At least we hope no one was hurt because if someone was actually dead, it would make our bitching seem pretty petty.

But our spirits stayed high. Dashan and I wrote a faintly obscene poem and Chris entertained us with his vast collection of emo. Then we bought a tee-shirt from the "Super Duper Weenie" stand. That cheered us up considerably.

Anyway, we did finally make it up to Yale, but by then it was way too late to play songs so we just went for pizza (very good) and spent an hour in a Walgreens. There's a lot of fun to be had at the New Haven Walgreens. If you're in the neighborhood, I recommend you checking it out. We took all the quizzes in the magazines (We learned that Dashan is a "brainy type", Chris's "crush" likes him for his heart and if I were a girl group, I would be The Donnas.)

Wisely (and awesomely), we purchased matching sweatshirts because it was wildly chilly up there. So if you see us around town and we're all wearing black- don't worry. We're not becoming artsy. It's just our old uniform from the day we were all fighting a war against the suckiness of fate.

We did get to at least SEE Daoud briefly. He appears to be well and not totally Frenchified yet.

It was a noble effort and maybe we'll try it again some day. Some day...
